Center Stile

What is a Center Stile?

 Center Stile

If you have cabinets in your home that are fairly long, there is a good chance that you have center stiles, which act as support to the rest of the cabinets. You can think of center styles as supporting beams, as they support the rest of the cabinets, much like beams support various housing structures and bridges. Without center stiles, if cabinets were loaded with too many dishes and plates, the weight may make the cabinets collapse, which can cause a great deal of damage. On top of this, if a cabinet were to collapse while anyone was working in the kitchen, they could easily be injured or killed, due to the fact that the cabinets can easily come crashing down, as a lot of cabinets are hung from the ceiling.
To avoid this potential problem, nearly all cabinets that are fairly lengthy come equipped with center stiles. These are essentially beams that run every few feet with cabinets. You will usually have two cabinet doors that open up, and if there is not a wall on one side and the cabinets continue, you can expect to come across a center stile. These give a great deal of support to the cabinet system, and without them, there would be a great deal of problems. Many people have tried to build cabinets and have failed to put in the proper center stiles, which will always cause a problem in the end. A lot of people have cabinets that are sinking in the middle and they do not realize that the problem stems from the fact that they do not have center stiles in place.
Creating cabinets without these center stiles would be the same as if you tried to build a house without the frame work. The bottom line is, if you want to build cabinets that will withstand a lot of weight and not break down on you, you should absolutely put in support systems. These center stile support systems will allow you to put way more weight in the cabinets than you would have been able to if you did not put them in. There is no question that center stiles have been a huge part of the way that cabinets have been built in the United States and around the World and if you do not have these, there is a high probability that your cabinets have a higher chance of breaking.
